Kai Trump, the granddaughter of former President Donald Trump, gave a speech on the third day of the Republican National Convention (RNC) held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she shared insights into her grandfather’s lesser-known side.
“For me, he is just a regular grandfather,” she said. “He sneaks us candy and soda when our parents aren’t looking, and he always cares about how we are doing in school.”
Kai is the daughter of Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of President Trump, and his former wife Vanessa Trump. At the age of 17, Kai took the RNC stage for the first time, describing to the audience the kind of person her grandfather is in her eyes.
“When I made it onto the honor roll, he printed it out and proudly showed his friends how proud he was of me,” she said. “He would call me during breaks, asking about my golf practice, and he would share tips about his own golf game. But I had to remind him that I was still in school, so I could only call him back after school.”
Active on social media, Kai frequently shares her golf skills online. In her speech, she reminisced about the times she spent swinging clubs with her grandfather and had to remind him that she is also a member of the “Trump” family.
“Whenever we played golf together, if I wasn’t on his team, he would try to distract me in various ways. He always unexpectedly found that his tricks didn’t work on me,” she said. “I had to remind him from time to time that I am also a member of the Trump family and not easily fooled.”
As the eldest of President Trump’s ten grandchildren, Kai has made numerous appearances in family photos and attended significant events such as Trump’s inauguration ceremony in 2017. However, this time she played a significant role in her grandfather’s campaign activities.
“Grandpa, you are my role model, I love you. The media may portray my grandfather as a different person, but I understand who he truly is,” she said. “He is caring, full of love, and genuinely wishes for this country to become better. He tirelessly works every day to make America prosperous again.”
With a massive following on Instagram, Kai’s social media fanbase surged from 131,000 to 139,000 after her speech. Her posts mainly revolve around golf, including her championship win earlier this year at the Trump golf course in West Palm Beach.
Last Saturday, she posted a photo of President Trump being surrounded by the Secret Service after being shot at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, captioned with, “We love you, Grandpa. Don’t give up the fight!”
