On April 8, 2024, the Hualien County Government in Taiwan established the “0403 Earthquake Disaster Joint Service Center.” This center is aimed at providing assistance to households affected by the earthquake. One of the major initiatives being rolled out is the rental subsidy program, which is now open for applications.
According to the program, households with up to three residents will receive a monthly subsidy of 8,000 Taiwanese dollars. For every additional person in the household, an extra 2,000 Taiwanese dollars will be provided, with the maximum subsidy capped at 18,000 Taiwanese dollars per month. Hualien County Magistrate, Xu Zhenwei, mentioned that over 1,400 households are currently unable to return to their homes due to the earthquake’s impact. However, any household that has evidence of residing in Hualien is eligible to apply for this rental subsidy program.
In addition to providing immediate financial assistance, the county government is actively searching for suitable housing options for affected families. Long-term plans include the development of communal housing projects to address the housing needs of earthquake-displaced residents. The establishment of the “0403 Earthquake Disaster Joint Service Center” reflects the government’s commitment to supporting and assisting those who have been adversely affected by the earthquake in Hualien.
