Fire at Everest Base Camp Hotel Reduces 17 Rooms to Ashes

A severe fire has recently erupted at the Good Luck Hotel, a prominent lodging spot situated along the trekking route on the southern slope of Mount Everest in Nepal. The main building, which housed 17 rooms, has been nearly completely destroyed by the flames.

Videos filmed at the scene reveal raging flames swiftly engulfing the structure, accompanied by loud explosions that echoed throughout the area. In a frantic attempt to salvage belongings, people were seen throwing mattresses, luggage, and other items out of windows.

A British travel blogger, who was present during the incident, expressed his alarm while filming, stating, “The hotel is on fire. The flames are spreading… There is no rescue here due to the snowfall and risk of avalanches, so no one can leave the area, and no one can come to extinguish the fire.”

According to reports from various news sources, the Good Luck Hotel is one of the oldest trekking accommodations in the region. The fire reportedly broke out around 11 a.m. on October 30, originating from the hotel kitchen. Given the extensive use of wood in the building’s construction, the flames spread rapidly. While local guides and staff attempted to douse the fire, it quickly grew beyond their control. Fortunately, all guests and workers were successfully evacuated, and there were no reported casualties.

Witnessing the catastrophe firsthand, a trekking guide named Gulom shared his sorrow, saying, “We could only watch as it burned down. There were many gas canisters in the kitchen, making it nearly impossible to extinguish the flames. This hotel holds countless cherished memories, and seeing it destroyed is truly heartbreaking.”

Initial investigations suggest that the fire was sparked by the explosion of a gas canister in the kitchen. Reports indicate that due to the remote location of the hotel, residents and local businesses often keep large sums of cash stored inside their premises, as banking facilities are scarce in the area. Analysts speculate that this devastating fire could lead to the loss of significant amounts of cash, imposing a heavy financial burden on the hotel owners and the local community alike.
