Delta Air Lines Upgrades Business Class to Create Most Luxurious Experience in Decades

Delta Air Lines held a launch event for the “New Generation Delta One” business cabin experience at the SUMMIT One Vanderbilt, a 72-story building in Midtown Manhattan, New York City, on October 14, 2026. This marks the airline’s largest and most comprehensive investment in premium cabins in nearly 30 years, covering dining, beverages, personal amenity kits for passengers, service processes, and future new seats, with the aim of creating a more boutique hotel-like end-to-end travel experience.

The new service will debut on transatlantic Delta One routes departing from Los Angeles this fall and will be rolled out globally by early 2027. Additionally, the new generation Delta One suite seats designed specifically for the upcoming Airbus A350-1000, featuring longer lie-flat beds, larger screens, and more storage solutions, will gradually be introduced in 2027.

Ranjan Goswami, Chief Marketing and Product Officer at Delta Air Lines, stated, “Delta’s redesign is centered around addressing passengers’ true needs and desires, with every detail carefully considered. Each of our investments is deliberate, aimed at providing the industry’s highest-quality end-to-end travel experience. The upgraded dining and hospitality experience reflects our commitment to raising standards while giving passengers greater control during their journey.”

Displayed in the simulated suites at the event were several thoughtful designs. The new generation suites (to debut on the A350-1000) feature a reverse herringbone layout, window-facing seats, beds measuring approximately 79 to 83 inches, memory foam with pillow-top layers, Missoni bedding, dedicated shoe storage, laptop compartments, glasses hooks, and control devices inspired by luxury cars for adjusting backrests and leg rests. Wireless charging, USB-C, and universal power outlets are available, with a large entertainment screen for a more personalized content experience.

These details are aimed at reducing passengers’ time spent searching for items or dealing with minor inconveniences, allowing them to focus on rest and enjoying the journey.

The new Missoni Winter Elsewhere toiletry kit, including Grown Alchemist skincare products, Marvis toothpaste, and the addition of a Missoni mini pillow, will be launched on November 3. Some routes will also include complimentary Bombas socks.

Delta has collaborated with Michelin-starred chef Simon Hulstone and Master Sommelier Andrea Robinson, spending months redesigning menus and wine lists to cater to the impact of high-altitude environments on taste, emphasizing texture, aroma, and consistency.

The menu focuses on “upgraded classics,” with highlights such as:
– Wagyu beef burger with caramelized onions, rich Cheddar cheese, pickles, served in a toasted brioche bun;
– Pan-seared or regionally inspired sea bass (such as Hong Kong-style);
– Prime rib, braised lamb shoulder, and other main courses;
– Seasonal wild mushroom creamy risotto to maintain a silky texture even at high altitudes;
– Classic dessert cart: customize your own sundae (drizzled with rich dark chocolate sauce, adorned with Italian Amarena cherries, crushed walnut pralines, etc.), choose dairy-free sorbet, and opt to have it topped with Champagne Taittinger.

As for the wine list, Robinson curated 13 selections (from 11 wineries) from approximately 1600 wines for SkyMiles members, featuring premium wines such as Silver Oak from Napa Valley, expanding the collaboration with Champagne Taittinger. Starting December 1, Delta will be serving Blanton’s Single Barrel Bourbon onboard (complete with its iconic horse and jockey bottle stopper), making it the first and only airline to offer this spirit. Some Tokyo Haneda routes will also include Dassai 45 sake.

Passengers can pre-select their main course up to 18 hours before departure for more flexibility, opt for light snacks or skip breakfast on long-haul flights and only have coffee and croissants to maximize rest time. At service initiation, hot towels, warm nuts, and a fresh “small relaxation” drink are served to passengers on their side tables, along with fresh-cracked black pepper, to accompany salads and soups.

These upgrades have been developed over 14 months by more than 200 cabin crew and staff, validated through 36 test flights.

Kristen Manion Taylor, Vice President of Delta Brand Experience, emphasized, “Luxury means experiences designed around you – today’s premium travelers value both quality and choice. These upgrades provide greater flexibility to ensure that every Delta One passenger can enjoy their journey in the way that suits them best.”

These reforms come at a time of escalating competition in the high-end airline market in the United States, with airlines enhancing lie-flat seats, chef menus, and personalized services. Delta emphasizes that this is not only an upgrade of hardware and software but a continuation of its customer-centric hospitality tradition, making the journey itself as charming as the destination.
