On Monday, October 12th, RJ Mitte, the actor who portrayed Walter White Jr. in the acclaimed and award-winning series “Breaking Bad,” passed away at the age of 34.
His agent informed Fox News Digital, stating, “With heavy hearts, we announce the unfortunate passing of the beloved actor, philanthropist, and active advocate for the rights of individuals with disabilities, RJ Mitte.”
The statement continued, “RJ Mitte is most widely known for his role as Walter ‘Flynn’ White Jr. in the AMC hit series ‘Breaking Bad.’ He incorporated his personal experience of living with cerebral palsy into the character, bringing authenticity to the role. He also established a platform dedicated to raising awareness on disability issues and promoting social inclusion. In addition to bringing joy to friends and family worldwide, he served as an ambassador for the United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s Hospital.”
Diagnosed with mild cerebral palsy at the age of three due to a lack of oxygen to the brain, Mitte began his acting training after moving to Hollywood in 2006. He started with background roles in productions like “Hannah Montana.” In 2008, he took on the role of Walter White’s son, “Walter White Jr.,” who had cerebral palsy in “Breaking Bad,” requiring the character to use crutches and intentionally slur his speech. In 2014, Mitte became a United Cerebral Palsy ambassador and endorsed the #CutTheBull anti-bullying campaign. In 2016, he participated in Channel 4’s coverage of the Rio Paralympics. His film “Westhampton” was released in 2025, and recent projects include “Escape from Paradise,” “The Uncertain,” and “Promise Under the Chestnut Tree.”
The statement highlighted Mitte’s role as chairman of The Mitte Foundation, which supports charitable causes and community projects. He used his influence to break stereotypes and advocate for better representation of people with disabilities.
The cause of Mitte’s death has not been disclosed at this time.
According to TMZ, Mitte appeared on “The Joe Vulpis Podcast” last week, discussing how “Breaking Bad” changed his life and the close relationships he maintained with the cast years after the show concluded.
