13 days after official announcement, Wang Lixia resigns as Inner Mongolia Chairperson.

Former Inner Mongolia Chairman Wang Lixia has resigned from her position and had her qualifications as a representative of the 14th Inner Mongolia People’s Congress revoked, according to Inner Mongolia News Network. The decision was made during the 19th meeting of the Standing Committee of the 14th People’s Congress of Inner Mongolia on September 4.

Wang Lixia, born in June 1964, is a member of the 20th Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), a candidate member of the 19th Central Committee, and a member of the 20th Central Committee. She previously held various positions, including Deputy Director, Party Secretary, and Director of the Shaanxi Provincial Bureau of Statistics, Deputy Secretary of the Tongchuan Municipal Party Committee, Acting Mayor, and then Mayor.

In 2013, at under 49 years of age, Wang Lixia was appointed Deputy Governor of Shaanxi Province, becoming the youngest provincial-level official in Shaanxi at the time.

In 2016, she was transferred to Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region as a member of the Party Committee and Minister of the United Front Work Department. In 2019, she became the Secretary of the Hohhot Municipal Party Committee.

In July 2021, she was appointed Deputy Secretary of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Party Committee. In August of the same year, she was appointed Vice Chairman and Acting Chairman of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. In September, Wang Lixia officially became the Deputy Secretary of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Party Committee, Chairman of the Autonomous Region, and Secretary of the Government Party Group, making her the ninth female provincial-level government leader since the establishment of the CCP.

Wang Lixia’s last public appearance was on August 16 when she went to Ulaanhad Banner, Bayannur City to command the search and rescue operations for missing persons due to a mountain flood.

Six days later, on August 22, Wang Lixia was reported to have fallen from power.

Wang Lixia is the 39th senior official under the central control of the CCP Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission to be publicly reported for investigation this year. She is also the 7th senior official at the ministerial level to fall from power this year.
