The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan) stated that Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu led a delegation of business representatives to visit the Republic of Belize and the Republic of Guatemala in Central America, with the aim of meeting the leaders of both countries to deepen strategic partnerships and economic cooperation.
Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu, along with the delegation of business representatives, embarked on a visit to the Republic of Belize and the Republic of Guatemala on the 27th. During the visit, they are scheduled to meet with the Governor-General of Belize, Froyla Tzalam, Prime Minister John Briceño, as well as the Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Minister, Francis Fonseca, among other Belizean officials.
During the visit to Guatemala, Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu will meet with President Bernardo Arévalo and key Guatemalan officials, including Foreign Minister Carlos Ramiro Martínez. They will jointly host a celebration event marking the 92nd anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Taiwan and Guatemala, highlighting the deep friendship between Taiwan, Belize, and Guatemala.
To gain a firsthand understanding of the cooperative projects between Taiwan and Belize, as well as Guatemala, Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu will inspect the construction progress of the Saint Peter’s Hospital in Belize, the proposed site for the “Taiwan-Caribbean Prosperity College,” and the “50 Social Housing Units Project.” Additionally, he will sign a joint communique with Minister Fonseca and a cooperation agreement on diplomatic personnel training and exchange.
During the visit to Guatemala, Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu will inaugurate the renovation project of the Guatemalan Ministry of Foreign Affairs space and participate in the opening ceremony of the Surveillance and Emergency Response and Incident Control Center at the Guatemala City International Airport. He will also inspect the proposed site for a specialized cancer hospital, marking the beginning of a new chapter in bilateral cooperation across various sectors.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that expanding business opportunities between Taiwan and Belize, as well as Taiwan and Guatemala, is a key focus of this visit. Economic cooperation conferences and business matchmaking sessions will be held in both countries to further enhance industrial collaboration and trade exchanges between Taiwan, Belize, and Guatemala. Inviting representatives from the US-Taiwan Business Council to participate and engage with local American chambers of commerce aims to facilitate trilateral cooperation among businesses from Taiwan, the US, and friendly nations, building a solid alliance in the democratic business arena.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu has been actively promoting “comprehensive diplomacy” and the “Flourishing Eight flagship projects” since taking office, to realize President Tsai Ing-wen’s vision of “value diplomacy” and making Taiwan an “unmissable economic nation.” By sharing Taiwan’s successful industrial development experiences and assisting Taiwanese companies in global deployment, marketing, and international integration, the Ministry aims to strengthen ties with partner states.
The delegation accompanying Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu consists of over 30 business representatives from various sectors such as green energy, smart transportation, AI digital and space technology, biotechnology, healthcare, tourism, and financial trading. Through the collaborative effort of the government and private sector, the formation of the “New International Formation Joint Fleet” aims to leverage the strategic geographic locations of the two friendly nations to connect North America, Latin America, the Pacific, and the Caribbean, promoting complementarity, expanding cooperation, and mutually beneficial relationships. This cooperation paves the way for shared prosperity, fostering deep and enduring friendships between Taiwan, Belize, and Guatemala.
