In Ansan City, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, a woman in her 50s of Chinese nationality is suspected of fatally stabbing her 70-year-old mother during the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday. On Sunday, the Ansan Branch of Suwon District Court approved her detention, citing a flight risk.
The incident occurred around 1 a.m. on the 26th. According to the investigation by Ansan Sanggreen Police Station, the woman and her mother lived together in a multi-unit residential area in Sanggreen-gu, Ansan. The woman allegedly attacked her mother with a knife at home, and after receiving cardiopulmonary resuscitation, her mother was taken to the hospital but unfortunately did not survive.
After the incident, the woman confided in an acquaintance who promptly contacted the authorities. When the police arrived at the scene, they arrested her on suspicion of killing her direct family member. The police investigation confirmed that both the mother and daughter are of Chinese nationality of Korean descent.
The police investigation revealed that the woman had consumed about a bottle of soju before the incident. She told the police that after drinking, she went to sleep, and when her mother returned home, they argued over lifestyle issues, leading her to impulsively commit the crime during the altercation. The police stated that the mother and daughter had frequently quarreled before, and they are currently investigating the specific motives and details of the case.
On the 27th, the Suwon District Court’s Ansan Branch reviewed the arrest warrant for the woman. According to an evening update by Yonhap News Agency, the court subsequently issued the arrest warrant on grounds of a flight risk, and the woman was formally detained.
