The New York gubernatorial election has entered a heated phase as incumbent Democratic Governor Hochul and his Republican challenger, Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, are set to face off in the only televised debate of this election season next month. The debate, scheduled for October 13th at 7 p.m. during prime time, will be hosted by Spectrum News.
Hochul, seeking a second full term, will go head-to-head with Blakeman, a Republican from Long Island, in what is expected to be a highly anticipated political showdown. The debate will be broadcast live on NY1 and the statewide Spectrum News channel, as well as streamed online on YouTube.
The debate will be moderated by Errol Louis from NY1’s “Inside City Hall” program and Susan Arbetter from “Capitol Tonight.” Blakeman had previously challenged Hochul to multiple debates on different TV stations and criticized Hochul for refusing to participate. With both candidates finally agreeing to the showdown on October 13th, this debate is poised to be a major highlight leading up to the election.
In addition to the gubernatorial debate, Spectrum News also announced the debate schedules for two other important New York state races. The State Comptroller debate will be held on October 1st, featuring incumbent Democratic State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli against Republican candidate Joseph Hernandez.
The Attorney General debate is set for October 8th, with incumbent Democratic Attorney General Letitia James facing off against Republican challenger Saritha Komatireddy. These debates will provide voters with crucial insights into the candidates’ positions on key issues and help them make informed decisions on Election Day.
