On September 18, 2026, the New York China-U.S. Friendship Association awarded the “Bishop Yu Bin Scholarship” for the autumn of 2026 in Manhattan’s Chinatown, totaling $326,500 to support educational institutions, social service organizations, and individual students. The American Fu Da Foundation received $250,000 to support the development of Fu Jen Catholic University in Taipei.
The Secretary-General of the China-U.S. Friendship Association, Li Panshi, introduced that the association was founded in New York by Bishop Yu Bin, the founder of Fu Jen Catholic University in Taipei, in 1950. Initially aimed at assisting Chinese students to study in the United States, for over 70 years, it has continued to promote educational assistance. The board of directors now upholds Bishop Yu’s wish to nurture young Chinese Americans, promote Chinese language education, support community services for Chinese people, and advance the academic development of Fu Jen University.
The Treasurer of the China-U.S. Friendship Association, Yu Jinshan, stated that the students awarded scholarships this autumn are studying at various institutions such as Fordham University, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Binghamton University, Creighton University, Avila University, and Adler University.
The educational and service organizations that received funding include the American Fu Da Foundation, the New York Summer High School Internship Program, Ming Yuan Chinese School, Renhe Chinese School, the Northeastern Home Association Student Scholarship, the UA3 Food Bank, and the Los Angeles Bishop Yu Nursing Home.
The organizers mentioned that the $250,000 received by the American Fu Da Foundation has enabled the China-U.S. Friendship Association and the foundation to jointly support the goal of raising $4.5 million for the development fund of Fu Jen University over five years.
Yao Wuge, the Chairman of the American Fu Da Foundation, expressed gratitude for the long-term support of cultural and educational services and community services provided by the China-U.S. Friendship Association. He noted that the association will allocate the relevant income to the “Bishop Yu Bin Scholarship,” continuing to fund cultural and educational service organizations and students, with the next round of scholarships scheduled to be awarded in the winter of 2027.
