On Tuesday, August 25th, three thieves in Egypt staged a heist straight out of a movie by stealing 210 kilograms of chicken from a speeding truck. Subsequently, they were shot dead in an armed conflict with the police, and three other suspects were arrested.
The Egyptian police confirmed that the suspects stole the chicken from a truck speeding on a highway in Cairo.
Social media users described the event as a movie-like heist, drawing comparisons to the robbery scenes in the “Fast & Furious” film series.
According to a video circulated on social media (click to watch), a van-style truck was speeding on the highway with a green pickup truck following closely behind. The pickup truck was almost seamlessly connected to the van as if being towed. Two men were seen standing on the hood of the pickup truck, continuously throwing items from the van into the pickup truck. Some of the items were in spherical, individually wrapped packaging, while others were in white box packaging. Finally, after the men finished throwing the goods, they closed the rear door of the truck, the pickup truck gradually disconnected from the truck, and they pulled apart.
Throughout the entire theft process, the van driver was completely unaware.
Reportedly, the video was filmed by a passenger in a nearby vehicle, unexpectedly went viral on the internet, eventually catching the attention of the police.
According to the truck driver, the vehicle had just been loaded with 4 tons of chicken from a factory. The driver stated that he did not notice the theft occurring and only discovered that 210 kilograms of goods were missing afterwards.
The Egyptian Ministry of Interior stated that after an investigation, they identified six suspects with criminal records and tracked them to a hidden location.
The Ministry of Interior stated that during the operation to apprehend the suspects, there was an exchange of fire between the suspects and the police.
“As a result, three suspects were shot dead, and three others were arrested. The weapons and vehicles used in the crime were also seized,” the Ministry of Interior said.
The police also confiscated the green pickup truck, two automatic rifles, a handgun, and the stolen 210 kilograms of chicken.
