A 22-year-old recent college graduate surnamed Cheng from Xinyang, Henan, went missing while traveling alone in the South Taihang Mountains for 14 days. Her body was discovered on August 10 near the Zhangliang Temple, about 200 meters below a cliff.
According to reports from mainland media such as Extreme Vision News and Red Star News, on August 10, 22-year-old Cheng from Shangcheng County, Xinyang City, Henan Province went missing for the 14th day during her solo adventure in the South Taihang Mountains. Rescuers at the scene stated that around noon on that day, Cheng’s backpack was found first, containing her identification card.
In the afternoon around 1 o’clock, rescuers found a body near the cliff close to the Zhangliang Temple, suspected to be Cheng. At 2:50 pm, the police and family confirmed that the body belonged to Cheng.
Prior to this incident, on July 21, Cheng left home to travel to the South Taihang Mountains. On the night of July 26, Cheng had a video chat with her family. The family mentioned that Cheng had just graduated from university and went to the South Taihang Mountains for a trip. Before going missing, there were no signs of abnormal emotions from her.
Previous missing person notices indicated that the last time Cheng was seen was between 8 am and 9 am on July 27, with the last transaction recorded at 8:45 that morning. The location where she went missing was near the Tree Temple Inn in Huixian County. Based on the last tracked location from the outdoor assistant app, it was confirmed that she ultimately reached near the Zhangliang Temple in Shangcheng Town, Huixian County, Henan.
Rescuers determined that the incident area had an altitude of about 1530 to 1570 meters, belonging to completely undeveloped wild mountains. There were no formal trails or signals, and there were cliffs with a drop of over 200 meters and weathered exposed cliffs. Cheng may have accidentally slipped and fell to her death while passing by the cliff area.
