In the early hours of Tuesday local time in Ukraine (August 11), which corresponds to Monday evening Eastern Time (August 10), Russian forces launched attacks on the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia and the capital city of Kyiv, resulting in at least 5 deaths and 21 injuries.
According to reports from Reuters, Ivan Fedorov, the governor of Zaporizhzhia Oblast, stated that Russian troops used missiles and aerial bombs to attack Zaporizhzhia, causing 5 deaths and 20 injuries.
Photographs released by Fedorov show multiple buildings and vehicles on fire in the area.
Simultaneously, the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, was also targeted in the attacks. The military administration of Kyiv reported that a warehouse in the city center caught fire, with one person sustaining injuries.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated that medical personnel have been dispatched to the affected area in the city center.
During the attacks, air raid sirens were sounded in both Zaporizhzhia and Kyiv. The first round of air raid warnings in Kyiv lasted for about 40 minutes before being lifted, only to sound again shortly after midnight local time. Witnesses reported hearing explosions earlier in Kyiv.
