Through the perspectives of two brothers and their companions, the documentary “Unbroken” traces an extraordinary journey: from a humble childhood in America to stepping onto the world’s most prestigious stage. Throughout this process, rigorous artistic training and unwavering spiritual beliefs have shaped their skills and character.
Steve Lance, the executive producer of “Unbroken,” stated that the film provides the outside world with the first opportunity to “deeply explore behind the scenes” of Shen Yun artists.
Shen Yun is headquartered in upstate New York and boasts eight equally sized artistic groups with the aim of reviving traditional Chinese culture, presenting “China before communism,” and attracting millions of viewers annually.
However, since its inception, Shen Yun has faced interference from the Chinese Communist Party. Particularly in recent years, Shen Yun has dealt with escalating bomb threats from the CCP, as well as other violent intimidations and false media propaganda targeting venues worldwide, all aimed at obstructing Shen Yun’s performances.
Lance mentioned that through the documentary, “we get to witness firsthand the daily training of dance artists,” allowing us to truly understand the dedication and effort required to present artistic masterpieces.
The synopsis of “Unbroken” states that when artists are willing to defend truth, faith, and tradition at all costs, it proves that the human spirit is unbreakable.
Lance expressed that the film demonstrates how Shen Yun artists persist resiliently in the face of transnational repression by the CCP.
