Son of the Director of a Hospital in Hunan Reported for Suspected Embezzlement Case: Latest Development

In a recent development regarding the “Son of Hospital Director in Hunan Suspected of Eating Public Funds” incident, the focus has now shifted to the confirmation that Zhu, the director of the First Affiliated Hospital of Hunan University of Chinese Medicine, Hunan, was identified as a target for the leader talent inspection under the Furong Plan for Health and Hygiene. The latest response from the Hunan Health Commission has reignited interest in this case.

According to a report by the “Yangcheng Evening News,” the Human Resources Department of the Hunan Health Commission stated that the evaluation of the “leader talent under the Furong Plan for Health and Hygiene” was initiated at the beginning of 2026. Zhu voluntarily withdrew from the inspection on June 5, and the process has been terminated.

On April 28, Ms. Chen, a staff member of the First Affiliated Hospital of Hunan University of Chinese Medicine, publicly accused Zhu Zhenhua’s son of allegedly “eating public funds” in the hospital, involving a sum that could exceed one million yuan.

Prior to going public with the accusation via the media, Ms. Chen had reported the matter to the hospital on multiple occasions. The hospital’s disciplinary committee had reached preliminary investigative conclusions in April 2025.

The disciplinary committee of the First Affiliated Hospital of Hunan University of Chinese Medicine had previously concluded that Zhu repeatedly took 20,000 yuan and has already refunded it. Director Zhu Zhenhua’s son denied the allegations of eating public funds.

Ms. Chen did not accept the investigation results and called for an escalated investigation.

On April 30, Hunan University of Chinese Medicine told official media that they had begun an investigation into the matter.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Zhu’s son graduated from Hunan University of Chinese Medicine in July 2019, and later joined the Health Management Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Hunan University of Chinese Medicine. In January 2022, Zhu was seconded to work in the Intensive Care Medicine Department of the hospital. During the secondment, the Health Management Department of the hospital repeated the payment of performance bonuses to Zhu, totaling 84,000 yuan. Hunan University of Chinese Medicine has requested Zhu to return the excess performance bonus of 84,000 yuan.

The above events have sparked discussion among netizens once again.

Many netizens believe that the amount involved is certainly more than 84,000 yuan. “I am more inclined to believe the whistleblower who mentioned a sum exceeding one million yuan.”

Some netizens questioned whether the local Health Commission was unaware of this case beforehand.

Others have expressed the need for further investigation, speculating that there must be bigger players involved behind the scenes.
