Cheng Liwen revisits New York Chinese Consulate, old photos from 20 years ago exposed

On June 7th, Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) Chairperson Zheng Liwen led a delegation to visit the New York Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association. Nearly 100 overseas compatriots from the KMT’s East Coast branch warmly welcomed them.

Before the official start of the event, Wu Rui-Xian, the chairperson of the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association, particularly showcased a historical photo from 20 years ago (2006). The image captured the scene of then KMT Chairperson Ma Ying-jeou and KMT spokesperson Zheng Liwen visiting the association. Wu Rui-Xian recalled that when Zheng Liwen first visited 20 years ago, he was also serving as the chairperson of the association, evoking many memories among the overseas compatriots present.

In his speech, Wu Rui-Xian, the chairperson of the New York Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association, mentioned that the association was established in 1883, boasting a long history of serving Chinese Americans and supporting the development of the Republic of China (Taiwan). He expressed that this was Zheng Liwen’s second visit to the association and hoped that her visit would bring new thinking and development directions for the KMT.

During her speech, Zheng Liwen mentioned that many of the members accompanying her on this visit to the United States were relatively young, reflecting the KMT’s ongoing efforts towards rejuvenation.

Discussing the history of the New York Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association, Zheng Liwen emphasized that the association was founded even before the establishment of the Republic of China in 1911. It not only witnessed the Xinhai Revolution but also actively participated in and supported related revolutionary activities, holding significant historical importance.

The visit by the KMT Chairperson and her delegation to the New York Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association signifies the enduring bond between the party, overseas Chinese communities, and the historical heritage that connects them. The exchange of ideas and experiences during such visits helps in shaping the future direction of the KMT and fostering greater understanding and cooperation among all participants.

These interactions serve to strengthen the ties between the party and its supporters, providing a platform for dialogue and collaboration that transcends borders and generations. Overall, such visits contribute to the promotion of cultural exchanges, mutual respect, and the preservation of historical legacies that continue to inspire and unite communities across the globe.
