Recently, in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, a Xiaomi SU7 car owner suffered a fractured right thumb due to being caught and crushed by the electric suction door of the vehicle. The customer service of Xiaomi Cars responded that the Xiaomi SU7 electric suction door is not equipped with anti-pinch function, posing a risk of hand injury.
According to a report from the Yangtze Evening News on June 6th, Ms. Zhao, a resident of Suzhou, stated that she had purchased the Xiaomi SU7 just two months ago. On June 4th, when the incident occurred, as she was getting out of the car and reaching back to close the door, her right thumb was caught by the door as she failed to retract it in time. Subsequently, the door’s electric suction function activated, automatically closing the door, causing Ms. Zhao intense pain and swelling in her finger.
After finishing work, Ms. Zhao went to the hospital for examination. The medical report revealed a fracture of the proximal phalangeal bone of her right thumb. Ms. Zhao mentioned that her daily life and work have been affected by the injury, and the recovery period may require one to two months.
Ms. Zhao later provided feedback on the situation through the Xiaomi Car app. According to staff at the Xiaomi Car Suzhou delivery center, the electric suction door of the Xiaomi SU7 is an optional feature, typically defaulting to off for display and test drive cars. After purchasing the car, users can choose to activate or deactivate this feature on their own.
The official customer service of Xiaomi Cars responded that the Xiaomi SU7 electric suction door indeed does not have anti-pinch function, posing a risk of hand injury. Currently, Xiaomi has apologized to Ms. Zhao for the incident and stated that they will take corresponding actions in the future. Regarding whether there will be software upgrades to optimize related functions and enhance safety in the future, the customer service mentioned that they could not provide an immediate response and would escalate the issue to the relevant departments.
Similar accidents are not isolated cases. Reports indicate that dozens of Xiaomi SU7 car owners have shared on social media platforms that they have been caught by the electric suction door, with some mentioning swollen fingers, fractures, and other injuries. Xiaomi Cars had previously stated that the SU7’s electric tailgate in the trunk is equipped with anti-pinch function, but during the electric suction phase of the tailgate, it cannot reverse open.
