Chongqing Murder Case: Associate Professor from University Allegedly Stabs Vice Principal

On the morning of June 5th, a video went viral on the internet showing a woman crying loudly and a man with blood on his hands, claiming, “I am eliminating harm for the people.” This incident involved an associate professor, Wang Zhihua, from Chongqing University of Technology allegedly stabbing and killing the deputy dean, Liao Linqing. The topic labeled as “Police report: 58-year-old man stabs and kills 60-year-old colleague” quickly became a top trending topic on Weibo.

According to the police report released by the Ba’nan District Sub-bureau of Chongqing Public Security Bureau, a criminal incident occurred in a residential area in Huaxi Street on June 5 at around 6 am. The suspect, Wang, reportedly stabbed his colleague, Liao, following a dispute between them. Wang has been detained for further investigation into the case.

The report did not provide detailed information about the victim and the suspect. However, based on information from online sources, the victim was identified as Liao Linqing, the deputy dean of Chongqing University of Technology, while the suspect was Wang Zhihua, an associate professor in the university’s School of Electrical Engineering.

A researcher from the University of Science and Technology of China, known as “Hu Bugui,” stated in a social media post that the incident occurred when Liao Linqing was exercising outdoors in the residential area of Hua Xi Street in the Ba Shu District of Chongqing University of Technology, where he was allegedly killed by Wang Zhihua.

Wang Zhihua graduated from Sichuan University with a degree in Physics in 1989 and obtained a Master’s degree in Optics from Hangzhou University in 1992. He has been teaching at Chongqing University of Technology since 2002, where he is an associate professor in the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

The incident quickly became a top trend on Weibo, with many netizens commenting on the situation. Some speculated about the alleged conflicts between the deputy dean and Wang, with claims of long-standing grievances and professional issues.

Other netizens shared personal encounters with Wang, describing him as emotional, paranoid, and difficult to deal with. Some criticized his teaching methods and noted past complaints against him.

According to the official website of Chongqing University of Technology, Liao Linqing, born in March 1966, was a member of the university’s Party Committee and deputy dean responsible for finance, infrastructure, logistics, self-study programs, continuing education, and supervising various departments.

Chongqing University of Technology, established in 1940 as the 11th Technical School of the National Government’s Materiel Bureau, is a key higher education institution in Chongqing. It is part of the high-level new engineering construction colleges in Chongqing and the only undergraduate college in the southwest region with a military industry background. The university has three campuses, including Huaxi, Liangjiang, and Yangjiaping.
