Deputy Mayor of Lhasa, Tibet, Zhangdui, Suspected of Wrongdoing and Removed from Position

On May 6th, official notifications reported that Jamdru, a member of the Standing Committee of the Lhasa Municipal Committee and the Executive Deputy Mayor, had been investigated and removed from his position in Tibet.

Public records indicate that Jamdru, a Tibetan male born in July 1968 in Batang, Sichuan Province, joined the Chinese Communist Party in June 1996 and started working in September 1991.

Jamdru has held various positions in Tibet for a long time. From July 2012 to February 2014, he served as a member of the Lhasa Municipal Government Party Group and Deputy Mayor.

From February 2014 to November 2016, Jamdru served as a member of the Lhasa Municipal Committee and Minister of Publicity. He then became the Executive Deputy Mayor of Lhasa Municipal Committee until the investigation was conducted.

In recent times, several Tibetan officials have been investigated. On April 12th, Ding Ye, former Deputy Secretary and Deputy Director of the Party Committee of the Tibet Autonomous Region People’s Congress Standing Committee, was announced to be under investigation after three years of retirement. He became the 22nd senior official to be investigated this year. Ding Ye had a long tenure in Tibet and also served as the Executive Vice Chairman of the Autonomous Region Government.

With Ding Ye’s downfall, it indicates that seven senior officials in Tibet have been investigated since the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.

Previously, six other high-ranking Tibetan officials who have been investigated include Jigugang, former Deputy Director of the Tibetan People’s Congress Standing Committee, Jiang Jie, former Vice Chairman of the Political Consultative Conference, Wang Yong, former Vice Chairman of the Government, Wu Yingjie, former Party Secretary, Qizhala, former Chairman of the Government, and Wang Jun (female), Deputy Director of the People’s Congress Standing Committee.

On May 6th, it was also announced that Fei Gaoyun, a member of the Anhui Provincial Committee and Secretary of the Hefei Municipal Committee, as well as Hu Chaowen, Secretary of the Enshi Prefecture Committee in Hubei Province, have been investigated and removed from their positions.
