11 Inmates Escape from US Prison, 1 Captured

On Friday (May 16), a major incident of 11 prisoners escaping collectively occurred in the state of Louisiana, USA. Authorities have issued a warning that these escapees are highly dangerous and may be armed, advising the public not to approach or get close to them.

In the early hours of Friday, prison officials at the Orleans Parish Justice Center in New Orleans, Louisiana discovered that 11 inmates were missing during the routine head count at 8:30 am.

Following this, law enforcement immediately implemented a full lockdown of the entire prison and launched a manhunt for the escapees.

Sources revealed to Fox 8 television station that the prisoners may have escaped through a tunnel dug under the bathroom, indicating a well-planned escape scheme by the inmates.

The local sheriff’s office has launched an investigation into the incident, reviewing facility agreements, staff performance, and security measures, pledging to hold accountable those responsible for aiding the escape.

Sheriff Susan Hutson stated that the event was “extremely serious and unacceptable.”

According to the list of escapees released by the police, most of the fugitives were incarcerated for serious crimes such as murder, assault, burglary, and illegal possession of weapons.

As of the time of reporting, one fugitive named Miles has been captured by the police in a parking lot in the French Quarter of the city.

According to reports citing sources by Fox 8 television station, law enforcement identified Miles in the area through the facial recognition technology of Project NOLA cameras.

Miles was previously charged with escaping from the Bridge City Youth Center and fatally shooting 59-year-old Scott Toups in the Upper Quarter.

The capture operation is still ongoing.
