Recently, in Shanglian Township, Minqing County, Fujian Province, four elementary school students tragically drowned while swimming in a pond.
According to a report by the “Xinjing Daily”, the incident occurred on April 19. A group of students from Shanglian Township in Minqing went swimming in a pond where the tragic incident took place. A student mentioned that the victims were students from Shanglian Central Primary School. It started with one student drowning, and sadly, the other three students who went into the water to rescue also lost their lives.
On the evening of April 28, the relevant authorities in Minqing County stated that, according to the police investigation, the four children went swimming in a natural water area over the weekend.
Local netizens revealed in their posts that “three of the drowned were siblings.”
A staff member of the Propaganda Department of Minqing County Committee told mainland media that it was in the early hours of the day following the incident when the bodies of the four children were found one after another in a small stream in Xin Cun Village, Shanglian Township. Upon confirmation, all four were found to have no vital signs.
According to netizens, due to the impact of the incident, “yesterday, teachers from all elementary and middle schools in Fuzhou called parents one by one to educate them on drowning prevention.”
