Recently, Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Anhui Provincial Committee Standing Committee and Hefei Municipal Committee Secretary Fei Gaoyun has been out of the public eye since April 20, 2026, and has been unusually invisible for nearly a week. There are reports indicating that Fei Gaoyun has been taken away for investigation by the CCP Central Commission for Discipline Inspection. Fei Gaoyun has previously served in the officialdom of Jiangsu for a long time. Recently, Fei Gaoyun’s deputy and former subordinates have been investigated one after another.
On April 21, 2026, CCP Anhui Provincial Committee Secretary Liang Yanshun conducted research and held a symposium at the Energy Research Institute of the National Science Center in Hefei. According to official media reports in Anhui, Wang Dongwei, Deputy Governor of Anhui Province, Shan Xiangqian, Secretary-General of the Provincial Committee, and Ren Qinghua, Deputy Governor, participated in the research and symposium. The report did not mention Fei Gaoyun, the Anhui Provincial Committee Standing Committee member and Hefei Municipal Committee Secretary, accompanying them.
Furthermore, on April 2, 2026, the Anhui News Broadcast reported that in the afternoon of that day, Anhui Provincial Committee Secretary Liang Yanshun and Governor Wang Qingxian held a working meeting with BYD Chairman and CEO Wang Chuanfu in Hefei; provincial leader Fei Gaoyun attended.
Reports from official media in Anhui and Hefei indicate that from Monday, April 20 to Friday, April 24, 2026, for five consecutive working days, Fei Gaoyun did not appear in public activities.
In the previous week, Fei Gaoyun participated in multiple public activities; on Monday, April 13, he conducted research on the construction of large scientific facilities in the Binhai Science City in Hefei; on Tuesday, April 14, he chaired a meeting of the Hefei Municipal Committee Standing Committee; on Thursday, April 16, he chaired a study session of the Hefei Municipal Committee’s theoretical learning center; on Sunday, April 19, he chaired a meeting of the Hefei Municipal Committee Standing Committee. In addition, on Friday, April 17, Wang Cheng, Deputy Secretary of Zhejiang Provincial Committee and Secretary of Ningbo Municipal Committee, led a delegation from Ningbo to inspect Hefei, with Fei Gaoyun accompanying them.
On April 24 and 25, 2026, various accounts on X platform revealed information about Fei Gaoyun being investigated. Some sources claim that Fei Gaoyun was taken away for investigation while attending training at the CCP Central Party School; others suggest that he encountered trouble during a business trip to Beijing and was summoned; there are also claims that Fei Gaoyun’s residence has been searched.
According to public records, Fei Gaoyun, born in August 1971 in Huai’an, Jiangsu, has previously served in Jiangsu, holding positions such as Deputy Mayor of Yizheng City, Deputy Secretary of the Municipal Committee, and Mayor.
From July 2011 to February 2013, he served as a Standing Committee Member of the Nantong Municipal Committee, Secretary of the Tongzhou District Committee, Director of the Municipal Committee’s Organization Department, and Secretary of the Qidong Municipal Committee of the CCP. It is worth noting that Tongzhou District of Nantong is the hometown of Ding Xueliang, the current member of the Political Bureau Standing Committee and Executive Vice Premier of the State Council.
In February 2013, Fei Gaoyun was transferred to Deputy Secretary of the CCP Changzhou Municipal Committee and Secretary of the Municipal Government Party Group, then appointed Deputy Mayor the following month, Acting Mayor in July, and officially elected as Mayor in January 2014.
During the tenure of Li Qiang as Secretary of the Jiangsu Provincial Committee and Shi Taifeng as Provincial Governor, Fei Gaoyun was promoted to Secretary of the CCP Changzhou Municipal Committee in February 2017.
While Lu Qinqian served as the Secretary of the Jiangsu Provincial Committee and Wu Zhenglong as the Provincial Governor, Fei Gaoyun was appointed Deputy Governor of Jiangsu Province in January 2018, serving as Wu Zhenglong’s deputy for three years; in January 2021, he became a Standing Committee Member of the Jiangsu Provincial Committee and Secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee. In the meantime, on November 15, 2019, Fei Gaoyun was given an administrative warning due to his involvement in the Nangang Tianjiayi Chemical Plant explosion in Xiangshui, Jiangsu.
During Lu Qinqian’s tenure as Secretary of the Jiangsu Provincial Committee and Xu Kunlin as the Provincial Governor, in December 2021, Fei Gaoyun ceased to concurrently serve as the Secretary of the Provincial Committee’s Political and Legal Affairs Committee, instead taking on the role of Deputy Secretary of the provincial government’s Party Group and Executive Vice Governor.
Following the 20th CCP Congress, Wu Zhenglong was promoted to Secretary-General of the State Council and State Councilor, serving as Li Qiang’s chief aide. Concurrently, in December 2022, Fei Gaoyun was transferred to CCP Anhui Provincial Committee Standing Committee member and Executive Deputy Governor; in April 2025, he was appointed as Secretary of the CCP Hefei Municipal Committee.
In recent years, the officialdom of Jiangsu and Anhui, where Fei Gaoyun has successively worked, have been undergoing continuous cleansing, and many fallen officials have had connections with Fei Gaoyun.
In the past month alone, several officials who served under Fei Gaoyun during his tenure in Changzhou have been investigated, including Fan Shoubai, former Vice Chairman of the Changzhou CPPCC, on March 18, 2026; Chen Zhongping, former Vice Chairman of the Jintan District CPPCC in Changzhou, on March 31, 2026; Song Jianwei, former Party Secretary of the Taining District People’s Congress Standing Committee in Changzhou, on April 15, 2026; Zhou Yong, former member of the Party Group and Deputy Director of the Rural Revitalization Bureau of the Agricultural and Rural Development Bureau of Changzhou City, on April 24, 2026.
The aforementioned officials who have been investigated were subordinate to Fei Gaoyun during his tenure as Mayor and Secretary of the Changzhou Municipal Committee from February 2013 to January 2018. During this period, Fan Shoubai served as the Secretary of the Jintan Municipal Committee and Secretary of the Jintan District Committee in Changzhou; Song Jianwei served as the District Head and Party Secretary of the Taining District in Changzhou.
Additionally, on November 18, 2025, Fei Gaoyun’s deputy and Hefei Municipal Committee Deputy Secretary Lu Jun fell from grace. Lu Jun has long served in Hefei, holding positions such as Secretary of the Yaohai District Committee and Deputy Mayor of Hefei.
