1 person dead and 11 injured in shooting incident in North Carolina

According to the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office in Hickory, North Carolina, a large-scale shooting incident occurred on Sunday (June 1st), resulting in one fatality and at least 11 injuries.

On Sunday at midnight, police received a report that a person inside a house in the Mountain View community in the northwest of Charlotte, about 60 miles away, had been shot, and they immediately rushed to the scene.

Sheriff Aaron Turk stated that officers initially arrived at the residence around 11 p.m. after receiving a noise complaint.

Officials mentioned that a total of 12 people were injured, with one fatality, one in critical condition, and 10 with serious injuries receiving treatment at the hospital. The deceased has been identified as 58-year-old Shawn Patrick Hood from Lenoir.

Police have confirmed that during the shooting, there was a gathering taking place inside the residence, with attendees ranging in age from teenagers to people in their twenties. Officials believe that the shooting incident involved multiple shooters, with at least 80 rounds fired at the scene.

Witnesses told local reporters that many of the attendees at the gathering were from nearby high schools. When the gunshots rang out, people started to scatter and run towards safety, seeking cover and fleeing in a safe direction. However, the Catawba County School District stated in a statement to Nexstar’s WJZY that “there is currently no information indicating that students from the district were involved in this large-scale shooting incident.”

As of now, no one has been arrested, and detectives from the Hickory Police Department and the State Bureau of Investigation are working diligently to determine the motive behind the crime and identify any suspects.
