1 Dead, 4 Injured as Large Passenger Bus Collides with Highway Guardrail and Overturns in Chongqing

On the afternoon of May 14th in Chongqing, a large bus overturned after colliding with a highway guardrail, resulting in 1 death and 4 injuries.

According to the Chuan Nan Ping An report, at around 3:10 PM on May 14th, 46-year-old driver Dong was driving a large ordinary bus on the Xiaoshiping section of Nanchuan District when it collided with the guardrail and overturned on the highway. The accident caused 1 fatality and 4 injuries, all of whom are reported to be out of danger. The cause of the accident is under further investigation.

Previously, Chinese media reported that on May 14th, a bus in Nanchuan District of Chongqing overturned while going downhill, resulting in one death and four injuries, with multiple passengers escaping through broken windows.

A local resident stated that the bus overturned near Liangyu International Health Valley in Nancheng Street during its descent, and after the incident, 120 emergency vehicles arrived at the scene.

An employee of Chongqing Liangyu Tourism Development Co., Ltd., the developer of Liangyu International Health Valley, mentioned that the accident occurred on the downhill road, and their staff rushed to the scene for rescue. The injured have all been taken to the hospital, and detailed information will need to be obtained from the personnel on site who are still handling the situation.

Videos shared by netizens showed a Chongqing-registered bus overturned on the ground with the windshield of the driver’s cabin shattered, while elderly passengers helped each other escape through the broken areas for self-rescue. Another video depicted individuals at the scene bleeding and injured.

In one of the videos, an eyewitness mentioned that the bus left a tourist resort created by a real estate developer and was full of elderly passengers when the accident occurred while descending a slope.
