In this leadership election, although there are 5 candidates competing, the main contenders are actually Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Taro Kono, and Sanae Takaichi. As the son of former Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi, Taro Kono has received the most support from parliamentary members, while Sanae Takaichi, due to her conservative stance, has a higher level of support among grassroots party members.
