“Edge of Tomorrow” Marks 10th Anniversary of Release in the UK, Taiwan, and Soon in the US
It has been 10 years since the release of “Edge of Tomorrow” (also known as “Live Die Repeat”) in the UK and Taiwan, with the milestone approaching on the 4th of July in the US. Tom Cruise, also known as Tom Cruise, expressed his gratitude to all the fans who have enjoyed this sci-fi film and sparked speculations about the possibility of a sequel.
On the 6th of June, “Edge of Tomorrow” (2014) celebrated its 10th anniversary of release in the UK and Taiwan. On the 7th, Tom Cruise shared a movie clip on his social media platform (Link to the video), commemorating the film’s milestone and thanking Emily Blunt for her role in the movie and all the fans who have shared love for the film.
Tom Cruise stated on Instagram, “It has been 10 years since the release of ‘Edge of Tomorrow’! I want to take this opportunity to thank Emily Blunt once again. She is not only my good friend but also a superb actress. I enjoyed her performance in this film. Her dedication, humor, vulnerability, and strength, she brought it all. This anniversary celebration has brought back incredible memories.”
Directed by Doug Liman, “Edge of Tomorrow” has received high acclaim from both critics and audiences on the review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, with ratings of 91% and 90% respectively. The Rotten Tomatoes’ summary praised the film for its gripping storyline, exceptional performances, witty humor, and intelligence, proving that Tom Cruise still has what it takes to carry the weight of an action-packed thriller in an entertaining way.
Earlier this year, rumors emerged about Warner Bros. planning to develop a sequel to “Edge of Tomorrow.” While Tom Cruise did not explicitly mention a sequel on his social media, his particular celebration of the film’s 10th anniversary sparked speculations and excitement among fans.
Regarding the possibility of a sequel, Emily Blunt mentioned in an interview with Variety in November last year, “Doug and I have been talking about this. I know Tom wants to make this movie, hopefully at some point. But it’s a matter of timing, and it’s been 10 years since we made the film. We had a great script at one point, but it feels like it would have worked about eight years ago. Not that our movie is old, but you have to consider it’s been a decade.”
Although the sequel has not been confirmed, leaving fans of the film disappointed, Tom Cruise assured on Instagram that he is developing new films that fans will love, “Thank you to every fan who has loved this film over the years, and thank you to Warner Bros. for producing this film. I can’t wait to share more exciting movies that we are working on with all of you.”
Set in a future where a full-scale alien invasion war is imminent, “Edge of Tomorrow” follows military rookie Bill Cage, who unexpectedly gains the ability to time-loop and is tasked with a combat mission. Through repeated cycles of life and death, Bill returns to the battlefield time and again, gaining deeper experiences of war with each awakening and understanding more of the enemy’s weaknesses.
By fighting side by side with special forces warrior Rita Vrataski, the two have more chances of victory and become the only hope for humanity to annihilate the alien army.
